So that’s it, Piping Live! 2016 is all over. We had a great week, with pipers from across the world coming together to take part, share their music, compete and enjoy some great tunes. With pipers from Slovakia, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland and more, this was a truly international year.
There were also a number of prestigious competitions through out the week – Angus MacColl was the Masters Solo Piping Champion on Monday 8th. On Tuesday 9th, Inveraray and District retained their International Quartet Competition, an event which is sponsored by RT Shepherd and Sons. Then on Thursday 11th there was a competition double header, with Calum Craib winning Pipe Idol 2016, sponsored by Fred Morrison Pipes, and then Stuart Liddell won the Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies Memorial Recital Challenge. The last competition staged by Piping Live! was held on Sunday 14th, with Herve Le Floc’h winning the Gordon Duncan Memorial Competition over three rounds of Breton, Scottish and Irish music.
Congratulations also go to Field Marshall Montgomery on their World Pipe Band Championships win, and all the other prize winners on Glasgow Green.
We would like to thank our staff, our fantastic army of volunteers, our amazing artists from across the globe and lastly you, our wonderful audience, who came, saw, danced, whooped, clapped and stayed in the rain. It wouldn’t be Piping Live! without you!
