Currently lead by Pipe Major Adam Michie and Leading Drummer Louise Bentley, A&D has a rich history deeply rooted in the vibrant city of Auckland, New Zealand. For over nine decades, the band has captivated audiences both locally and internationally with their exceptional performances and unwavering commitment to the art of bagpipe and drum music.
With its roots firmly planted in the enchanting land of the Kiwis, the band's New Zealand players form the backbone of the band, representing the local talent. Joining the New Zealand contingent are players from Scotland, the birthplace of bagpipe, from across the Tasman Sea, A&D welcomes a contingent of Australian musicians who contribute their own unique flavour to the ensemble. Completing the band's international lineup are members from South Africa, adding an African influence to the mix
A&D has represented New Zealand on numerous occasions, proudly showcasing their talent on the international stage. They have participated in prestigious competitions and festivals worldwide, leaving an indelible mark wherever they perform. The band will represent New Zealand at the 2023 Festival Interceltique Lorient prior to arriving in Glasgow for the 2023 Worlds.
With a growing emphasis on education, the band in 2022 created number 2 band to nurture the next generation of pipers and drummers, providing the pathway to the Grade 1 band through the invaluable knowledge, technique, and passion, imparted by experienced tutors ensuring that the traditional art of pipe band music continues to thrive in the Auckland community and beyond.
