Austin began piping in 2010 around the age of 12. Originally born in Honolulu, he grew up in San Diego where he began taking piping lessons from several members of the Cameron Highlanders pipe band whith whom he played until 2019, placing 5th at the 2016 World Pipe Band Championships in grade 3A.
Quickly rising through the amateur ranks, he reached the professional level after his twice winning the George Sherriff Amateur Memorial contest in Canada in 2015 and 2016 respectively. He placed second in 2019 in the US Silver medal for Piobaireachd at Winter Storm in Kansas City. He's had many instructors along his journey a few of which are Richard King, Bruce Gandy, and he has most recently been receiving instruction from Bill Livingstone. He currently plays with the St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band out of Houston.
