Bagad Brieg

Bagad Brieg

Bagad Brieg

In Brittany (France), a bagad is the equivalent of a Pipe Band. In addition to the Great Highland Bagpipe and Scottish snare drums, there are bombards (Breton instruments) and a set of various percussion.

Bagad Brieg is applauded every year by thousands of spectators across France. The traditional Breton music ensemble, originally from Briec, a small town near Quimper (Brittany in France), needed to be at the forefront of progress, handling musical technique and a taste for the stage. A recipe which, since its creation in 1978, has made bagad Brieg a reference in the bagad music. This success is made possible by the many crazy players who make up the association, from the music school to the Breton 1st-category bagad, and which have allowed the association to grow and win its spurs.
The bagad has created a street sound and light show with pyrotechnics entitled "LE ROI" (the king), and has performed it for two years now. The Briecois (name given to the inhabitants of Briec), are known for being extravagant within the bagadoù, they demonstrate in this show this rebellious nature which characterizes them.
The drums, bombards, bagpipes of the Bagad share the street with the Sonjévéyés company (professionals in the fire and street art) evolving in a uchronic space where Celtic melodies, industrial percussion and electric guitars resonate.
Brieg Pipe band
The Bagad Brieg pipers and drummers participate in many pipe band competitions in Brittany. They have taken part very regularly in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow since 2001. In August 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland, the bagad Brieg pipe band won the World Pipe Band Championship grade 2.
They were also world drumming champions in grade 2 in 2012 and 2014.
In 2023, the Briecois won their first two pipe band competitions in Brittany and are happy to finally come back to Scotland in Glasgow for the 2023 worlds.
On the occasion of the Piping Live, the Briecois will present a few pipers in a duet, a trio or a quartet to introduce our Scottish friends to a little Breton music.
