Classical Pipe Music – Scotland’s Hidden Treasure

This very special concert – Part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – takes the listener on a musical journey through Scotland’s precious musical heritage. This is a chance to hear some of the finest exponents of classical pipe music, or piobaireachd (pronounced ‘peebroch’). Some of this music is 400 years old but there are modern tunes written in the ancient style too.

This concert, brought to you by The Piobaireachd Society, will showcase tunes that have come to us via the travelling stream of tradition and other, newer, pieces cast in the same style. Prepare to be enthralled by the Desperate Battle of the Birds, The Old Woman’s Lullaby and Lament for the Children, wonderful melodies and masterpieces of construction.
