Our flagship pipe band performances return to Buchanan Street from Monday! Pipe Bands will play at three points on Buchanan Street: the Concert Hall Steps, Fiveways at TGI Fridays, and concluding in St Enoch Square. Here’s the full line-up:

Draw for the Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies Memorial Recital Challenge 2019

Willie McCallum joined us yesterday afternoon to make the draw for The Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies Memorial Recital Challenge 2019! , which is set to take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 15th August in the Strathclyde Suite at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Carrying on the tradition started in the Lord Todd Bar at Strathclyde University, the event pits four of the world’s top pipers against each other in a dynamic evening of piping. Each competitor will perform a medley of their favourite tunes, with a winner selected by secret judges.

The Order of Play for this year’s event  is:

1) Stuart Liddell
2) Angus MacColl (2018 Champion)
3) Callum Beaumont
4) Finlay Johnston

The event has sold out for the last three years, and tickets are again selling quickly for this year’s concert. If you don’t want to miss out, we’d recommend booking your tickets in advance from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Calum MacCrimmon to host this year’s Festival Club!

Our legendary late night sessions return to The National Piping Centre from Tuesday 13th – Friday 16th August! This year, we are delighted to announce that each night of the Piping Live! Festival Club will be hosted by Breabach and The Big Music Society’s very own Calum MacCrimmon. Calum will present each evening in his own inimitable style, with performances from some stellar acts. What better way to round off a day at the festival?

Spotlight on Learn at Live! 2019 + Competition

Brand new for Piping Live! 2019, Learn at Live! is a workshop series curated by Willie McCallum and Roddy MacLeod, set to take place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th August. The event will feature a series of talks and lectures looking at topics across the spectrum of Piping and Drumming, ranging from Junior Pipe Band Programmes with Jack Lee & J. Reid Maxwell and Creating a World-Class Drum Corps with Steven McWhirter to  Cape Breton Piping Traditions with Matt MacIsaac & Wendy MacIssaac and the Music of Gordon Duncan with Ian Duncan & Ali Hutton.

These workshops are great way to learn more about your craft, find out about a new style of music or look more closely at a particular topic. Whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner or experienced professional, these talks are suitable for all and will be delivered by some of the top names in piping, drumming and traditional music, so you’re sure to leave with top tips and new knowledge to improve your skills!
