The Piobaireachd Society was founded in 1903 to:
1) Foster the Encouragement, Study and Playing of Piobaireachd Music on the Highland Bagpipe.
(2) To collect Piobaireachd MSS and publish tunes which have never before been published, and to correct, when possible, tunes already in print and which are known to be wrong.
(3) The general advancement and diffusion of knowledge of this Ancient Highland Music,
(4) To encourage the playing of piobaireachd in competitions and recitals
Membership of the Society is open to everyone with an interest in ceòl mòr. The Society’s music collection today extends to 16 books in its series covering 250+ tunes. In addition to this publishing work, the Society sponsors teaching and lectures on piobaireachd and holds an annual conference dedicated to the study of this classical pipe music. The Society’s Patron is Her Majesty The Queen.
