Barnaby Brown

Barnaby Brown has been pioneering new approaches to pibroch since 1997, fired by awesome evidence.

As a singing piper, Barnaby is passionate about bringing undiscovered treasures to a wider audience, beautifully presented. He composes pipe-led choral dances, breathing life into Ancient Greek literature, and was the singing priest in the film Outlaw King, reconstructing medieval Scottish psalmody. Works written for him include Noli Pater by Sir James MacMillan (2015) and Il sogno di Marsia by Dario Marianelli (2022).
Barnaby’s doctoral research at the University of Cambridge examines the technical language of Scottish Gaelic pipers found in sources 1751–1838. As a workshop leader, he crafts experiences that invigorate brain and body, connecting with others across place and time.
