In his final year, he spent his time researching the playing styles of South Uist and Cape Breton piping. This research was put into use in recent years through his playing for step dance classes at Ceòlas, South Uist. Throughout the duration of his degree, he gained a wealth of performance experience which has greatly developed his musicianship. Through playing with the McLarenMilne Duo and the Kinnoull Ceilidh Band, he continues to perform regularly throughout Scotland. 

Ciar has had a wide variety of teaching experiences in recent years. As well as previously being an instructor for the National Piping Centre, he has taught bellows workshops in The Netherlands and chanter/bagpipe classes at Fèis Bharraigh. In April 2023, Ciar was appointed as the bagpipe and whistle instructor for Clackmannanshire Council, but recently left teaching in June 2026 to pursue another career. Furthermore, he is a member of the 2024 and 2025 Grade 1 World Pipe Band Champions, Inveraray and District.
