Fergus has played bagpipes all over the world. He is also well known as a Compère at music events in Glasgow and beyond and a renowned speaker at Burns Suppers all over the world, especially Tam o’ Shanter, The Immortal Memory, and the Address to the Haggis.. Fergus wrote A Piper’s Tale several years ago, a collection of informative and fascinating stories about what motivates the world’s top pipers.
Away from the world of pipes, Fergus is a renowned broadcaster who mainly focusses on money and consumer issues. He has made regular appearances as a money and consumer expert on a wide variety of TV and Radio programmes concentrating on ‘consumer led’ issues such as pensions, mortgages, credit cards, debt, and savings.
He has made appearances on STV News, BBC’s Newsnight Scotland, and Location, Location, Location on Channel 4. He was the resident ‘Money Expert’ on networked BBC show Homes Live and was a regular on BBC Scotland flagship news programme Reporting Scotland for many years. He appeared from time to time on BBC Breakfast and has also appeared on Watchdog and Dispatches. He was one of a team of money experts on BBC One daytime show Right On The Money.
