Finlay Johnston began piping at the age of 8 and was originally taught by his Grandfather Alasdair Sinclair from Tiree and Mother Anne Johnston (Sinclair). Shortly after this Finlay began receiving lessons from Ronnie McShannon and has continued to do so until present. This teacher pupil relationship has now lasted 23 years. His mother Anne was the first woman to win the Silver Medal. His father Tommy Johnston from Belfast was a pipe band snare drummer and played under Alex Duthart.
Finlay is the current Glenfiddich Piping Champion, having won his first overall Championship in October 2018.
Finlay currently works as a Piping Instructor at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow and also part time as a reed maker at his fathers business Pipe Dreams, the manufacturers of Ezeedrone reeds.
Outside of piping Finlay is a keen Downhill mountain biker!Events
