Lorne MacDougall is a 2025 Musician of the Year nominee at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards and holds an Honours Degree in Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
His playing has featured in productions including Disney Pixar’s Brave, DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Doctor Who, The Crown, Good Omens, Thunderbirds Are Go, The Sea Beast, Silent Witness and the 2019 Christmas special of Call the Midwife. He served as bagpipe advisor and recording artist for the final episode of The Crown and also appeared onscreen in the series as The Piper to the Sovereign. More recently, his playing could be heard in Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. In gaming, he led the bagpipe section for Geoff Zanelli’s score to Squadron 42.
A three-time finalist in BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year, MacDougall’s releases include the album Hello World and more recent projects such as Bonfires of Arran, inspired by his hometown of Carradale, Sounds from the Sky and the pioneering 8-Bit Bagpipes. Alongside his solo work, he performs with the bagpipe supergroup Tryst, has worked in various recording roles with The Red Hot Chilli Pipers and has toured internationally with the Tannahill Weavers. This programme will feature a mix of new material alongside old favourites from across his repertoire.
