The Scotch College (Melbourne) Pipes and Drums is the oldest school pipe band in Australia. It was formed as part of the school cadet corps in 1946 and is one of the most easily recognisable symbols of the school. Piping and drumming are very popular with the boys at Scotch, with over 120 boys in the program, ranging from beginner to advanced, in three bands.
The band is the current Australian champion school band in both Grade 4A and Novice B grades. In 2024, the Novice B band won the World Championships, the first World title achieved by any Australian school in a Novice grade.
Since 2013, the band has undertaken several tours of Scotland, representing Scotch at the very top level of competition. In 2014, the band competed for the first time in the World Championships, where they achieved an equal third place in the Juvenile grade, the highest-ever placing for any Australian school band. In 2019, the band won the European Championships in the Novice B grade, the first Australian school band to win any major championship in the UK.
