Drawing from rock, pop, and pipe band roots, Glasgow-based trad band Spindrift delivers a vibrant, cross-genre sound driven by five exceptional young musicians.
Glasgow-based emerging trad band Spindrift was born out of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where five students turned a shared lecture slot into a powerhouse musical collaboration. Drawing from their diverse regional backgrounds, Spindrift creates a vibrant, cross-genre sound that fuses traditional music with dance, rock, and pipe band influences.
The lineup features Stella (Ayrshire) delivering energetic clarsach arrangements; Sarah (Falkirk), a seasoned fiddle player of 10 years; and Hamish (Nairnshire), who brings a decade of piping experience and massive melodic drive to the whistles and bagpipes. The powerhouse rhythm section is driven by Edinburgh’s Niall Mackintosh on guitar, utilizing a rock and pop background for heavy acoustic backing, alongside Campbeltown’s Callum Gibbs—an intricate bodhrán player and the reigning Juvenile World Champion snare drummer. Together, Spindrift represents the bright, innovative future of the Scottish trad scene.
