Fresh off the launch of their debut EP, the Calum MacAskill Trio represents three dedicated musicians bringing an exciting, contemporary edge to traditional Scottish music.
The Calum MacAskill Trio is an exciting collaborative project focused on fresh, original material. Centred around Glenelg piper and whistle player Calum MacAskill, the trio features all-original melodies brought to life by the rhythmic and harmonic ideas of guitarist Angus Gilpin and bodhrán/mandolin player Rory Carter.
Having recently celebrated the launch of their debut six-track EP with a special performance at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the trio represents three dedicated musicians making their mark on the Scottish trad scene. Between Angus’s busy teaching and gigging schedule on Skye, Rory’s recording work following his studies at the RCS, and Calum’s varied experience—which spans the Argyll Ceilidh Trail to rehearsals with Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band—this performance promises an engaging showcase of new Highland music from a genuinely collaborative young line-up.
The programming on Centre Stage and in the Bothy are included in your Festival Site day or week ticket.
