The Govanhill International Festival and Parade is taking place on Saturday 1st August.
Starting point: Queen’s Park at the Victoria Road Gates / Time: 1pm (assemble from 12:30pm)
Starting at Queen’s Park, the Carnival Parade winds through Govanhill and into Govanhill Park — drums, banners, costumes, brass bands and community groups from across the neighbourhood and beyond. Featuring Brass Aye, Bloco Dandara, Nikkan Dance Academy, artist Freida Ford and many more, the procession moves through streets too often defined by stigma from the outside, celebrating the people, cultures and solidarity that actually shape life here.
Govanhill Park, 2pm – 5pm / Free Entry
As the parade arrives, the afternoon opens up. The live stage features Maz and the Phantasms, Makongo, Samba Sene and Romane Cierhenia. There will be food stalls and we invite you to bring a picnic. The Create/Disrupt Zone hosts drop-in activities led by local artists, makers and grassroots organisations. Explore stalls, make something, dance, eat, meet your neighbours.
Accessibility
Mixed surfaces including grassy areas and paved pathways. Wheelchair accessible picnic tables.
