Formed in 2014, the duo Alma Menor was born from a creative partnership that began
in 2011 between accordionist Tiago Marques and bagpiper Tiago Morais. From the
beginning, the project stood out for its originality and continuous exploration of new
soundscapes. Their debut album, Em Tons de Aguarela (2018), introduced their distinct
fusion of bagpipes and accordion and featured collaborations with acclaimed musicians
from the Portuguese traditional music scene.
In 2025, Alma Menor revealed Raízes de Xisto, the first chapter of an ambitious trilogy
that redefines Portuguese traditional music through meticulous composition and
innovative performance. 2025 marks a new milestone with the creation of new
arrangements of pieces by Carlos Paredes, more original material, and the
reinforcement of their reputation as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary
Portuguese folk. Two new official videos accompany this release, offering powerful
visual interpretations of their evolving sound.

Sound & Vision
Alma Menor's music merges the vibrant timbres of the bagpipes with the rich harmonic
textures of the accordion. Drawing inspiration from waltzes, tangos, klezmer, jazz, and
the Portuguese tradition, their sound travels beyond borders, surprising and exciting
listeners at every performance.
