They present vivid biographies of influential women who shaped piping traditions in different regions, highlighting their musical journeys, the challenges they faced, and the cultural impact they left behind. She also discusses pieces that were written specifically for women, tracing how composers sought to capture female perspectives, experiences, and musical styles within the piping repertoire.
In the second part of the presentation, Susy and Anna turn to works composed by women as well as pieces about women, illustrating how these compositions broadened and enriched the tradition. Each category offers its own narrative: women as creators, women as muses, and women as performers reclaiming space in the musical landscape. Anna, a maket collective ambassador, accompanies the talk by performing selected pieces live, allowing the audience to hear how these stories and histories come to life through the sound of the pipes.
This event will be on The Bothy stage within the Festival Site. The programming in the Bothy and on Centre Stage are included in your Festival Site day or week ticket.
